Rhoades McKee has recently elected Robert C. Shaver as President and Chairman of the Executive Committee, succeeding Bruce W. Neckers. The 2008 Executive Committee is comprised of Dan E. Bylenga, Jr., Vice-President of Marketing; Peter J. Lozicki, Vice-President of Finance; Mary Jane Rhoades, Vice-President of Practice Development; and David E. Bevins, Vice-President of Practice Profitability.
For the last three years, Rhoades McKee has partnered with Kendall College of Art & Design for a Holiday Card contest. Each winner receives a scholarship check. This year’s winners are:

William M. Newman has joined Rhoades McKee as senior counsel. Mr. Newman graduated from Wayne State University, magna cum laude, obtaining his law degree in 1970. He will continue to concentrate his practice in the areas of medical malpractice and insurance defense.

The KidsFirst home, that houses children in need of emergency shelter and care, is in urgent need of new carpeting. For more information about KidsFirst, please see www.stjohnshome.org. You can also support the Inch by Inch Carpet Fundraiser by making a financial contribution. Envelopes will be available in the Waters Building 1st Floor Lobby (St. John’s Home will provide a tax deductible receipt). Our goal is to raise $11,000.

Congratulations to all the participants in the Rhoades McKee Reeds Lake Triathlon. The event, held on a beautiful morning September 8, had 1,114 registered participants—the largest turnout in its 24-year history.
Rhoades McKee is the new title sponsor for the Rhoades McKee Reeds Lake Triathlon. The triathlon, consisting of a half-mile swim, 17.2-mile bike ride, and 4.9-mile run around Reeds Lake, will take place September 8. Rhoades McKee is contributing $10,000 a year for three years to the city of East Grand Rapids for the event, and also aims to raise money for St. John’s Home through contributions from participants.
Bruce A. Courtade, shareholder at Rhoades McKee, was re-elected to another three-year term on the State Bar of Michigan's Board of Commissioners.
Mark E. Fatum, shareholder at Rhoades McKee, has been named the Best Defense Attorney in Michigan by American Physicians.
LaRissa D. Hollingsworth, associate attorney at Rhoades McKee, has accepted a three-year appointment to the 13-member Board of Trustees of the Grand Rapids Christian Schools. Hollingsworth was named one of 10 “Lawyers of the Year” by Lawyers Weekly USA. A graduate of Michigan State University and Wayne State University Law School, Hollingsworth joined Rhoades McKee in 2003. Her practice includes civil litigation, commercial and business litigation and criminal defense.
Eric G. Lanning, associate attorney at Rhoades McKee, has been selected to serve a three-year term as a Director of the Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan. The first Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia in 1974. since then, more than 200 Houses have been licensed around the world, all with a common mission of providing a "home away from home" for the families of children needing care. The 19,000 square-foot West Michigan House, located on Cedar NE in Grand Rapids, opened its doors on March 23, 1990.
Lanning is a 1999 graduate of the Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington, and practices in the areas of estate planning, tax law, and business and corporate law.

David E. Bevins, shareholder at the Grand Rapids law firm of Rhoades McKee, has been named Volunteer of the Month for February 2007 by the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce. Bevins sits on the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce’s Member Benefits Committee. He chaired the Grand Rapids Bar Association Young Lawyers Section from 1998 to 1999, and has since participated on various Grand Rapids Bar Association and State of Michigan Bar Association committees.
Bevins focuses his practice on assisting lending institutions of all sizes in their residential and commercial loan workout departments. He also has broad experience in construction, commercial and real estate litigation and counseling.

Starck, associate at Rhoades McKee, has been elected to a one-year term as vice chairperson of the Environmental Law Section of the Grand Rapids Bar Association. Green and Starck concentrate their practices in the areas of real estate and environmental law.
