Community Commitment

west michigan engagement

With offices in Grand Rapids, Hastings, and Holland, our attorneys live, work and are engaged in the West Michigan community. Our attorneys serve in leadership positions on nonprofit boards and professional associations, our firm sponsors charitable events, and you will find our attorneys and staff volunteering throughout the community. Our commitment is both to our clients and our community. A few of our community partners include:

Kids’ Food Basket

Kids’ Food Basket is a grassroots, community solution to childhood hunger. They engage all who care about children reaching their full potential – in school and in life. Kids’ Food Basket began over a decade ago by serving 125 kids each school day through a Sack Supper program and now serves nearly 8,800 kids each weekday in West Michigan. In addition to providing counsel, Rhoades McKee has prepared sack suppers and decorated bags for the kids.

Legal Aid of Western Michigan

Legal Aid of Western Michigan serves to secure justice and to protect the rights of persons unable to obtain and pay for legal services in civil matters by providing legal representation and counsel. Rhoades McKee shares a strong commitment and provides support to Legal Aid of Western Michigan.

Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital

Mary Free Bed was founded in 1891 when a group of Grand Rapids women recognized the need for medical care for patients of limited financial means in our community. Today, it is the only independent, non-profit, nationally accredited, acute care rehabilitation hospital in West Michigan. In an effort to promote support and promote the organization, the firm has selected Mary Free Bed Foundation as the beneficiary of the Rhoades McKee Reeds Lake Triathlon.

Start Garden

Start Garden is an organization that funds entrepreneurs and new businesses. A legal provider to Start Garden, Rhoades McKee provides counsel and mentorship opportunities for Start Garden partners with business formation, licensing, employment and real estate issues.

Our Team in the Coummunity

Essential Support for Essential Workers

Bruce Courtade of Rhoades McKee partnered with other West Michigan community leaders in a program to provide meals to help two segments of the local economy suffering the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and its aftermath. Essential Support for Essential Workers is a vehicle for the West Michigan community to express their gratitude and appreciation for workers at Metro Health who are on the front lines of the battle against COVID-19 by purchasing meals from area restaurants who have suffered dramatic losses since being forced to shut down.

Rhoades McKee Reeds Lake Triathlon and Duathlon

The Rhoades McKee Reeds Lake Triathlon and Duathlon is one of Grand Rapids’ oldest triathlons. Nestled in the neighborhood of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, the premier event currently offers a triathlon, duathlon and aquabike for athletes. Title sponsor since 2007, Rhoades McKee supports the event to promote West Michigan’s commitment to an active and healthy lifestyle as well as raise awareness for Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation. During the race members of our team volunteer to aide water stations and keeping athletes safe along the route.

KidsFirst Committee

For over 30 years, Rhoades McKee has partnered with D.A. Blodgett – St. John’s Home, a 120-year-old accredited agency that provides comprehensive services to children and their families, including Big Brothers Big Sisters, foster care, adoption, residential services, emergency shelter care, and family support. The firm has donated its time to the agency, painting rooms, replacing the carpet, decorating bathrooms, and coordinating annual holiday gift and back-to-school backpack drives.
