As a summer associate with Rhoades McKee, you will be exposed to all our interdisciplinary teams that represent families and individuals, emerging businesses and large corporations.
While your summer will certainly involve research and writing on a wide range of legal problems, you will also work alongside attorneys who have been recognized for their excellence by peers and professional organizations such as Martindale Hubbell, Best Lawyers, Super Lawyers and Rising Stars. In addition, you will have the opportunity to attend court appearances, client meetings, depositions, mediations, practice group meetings, and professional association activities. Throughout the process, you will be paired with mentors who will provide assistance and feedback in completing assignments and help you identify resources available in the firm and the community.
“The mentorship program sets Rhoads McKee apart from other law firms. Rhoades McKee provides an associate mentor as well as a shareholder mentor. Both mentors checked in with me regularly to ensure I had the proper balance of assignments (litigation vs. transactional) and to make sure I was receiving assignments within my area of interest. From discussions with classmates and recent alumni it is evident that Rhoades McKee’s commitment to summer associate development is unmatched.”
— Alvin Storrs, 2016 and 2018 Summer Associate
“My experience working at Rhoades McKee as a Summer Associate has proven vital to my understanding what it means to practice law. As a law student, you learn a multitude of legal doctrines and principles without ever having an understanding of how those doctrines manifest themselves in practice; As a Rhoades Summer Associate, you quickly find out. From day one, the partners, associates, and other staff members welcomed me into the firm with open arms and offered themselves as a resource. Having previously worked full time, it is clear that Rhoades prides itself on creating an environment where work-life and personal life blend seamlessly. It’s safe to say that Rhoades McKee is at the forefront of innovation in regards to legal careers, as it recognizes that the Lawyer of Tomorrow’s office is located wherever Wi-Fi is available.”
— Bryndan Arnold, 2018 and 2019 Summer Associate
Social activities vary each summer but typically include attendance at the firm’s summer event, golf outings, professional networking events, participation in the corporate cycling or running teams and receptions. Many opportunities are available for volunteer service work through various community non-profit organizations with which the firm and its members have on-going relationships.
Nothing feels better than working in and being part of a vibrant city; a place brimming with events and activities from downtown to the lake shore.
