About Meaghan

What types of legal issues do you help individuals and businesses resolve?

I help employers resolve a wide range of legal issues. My litigation practice includes representing businesses in disputes involving unfair competition, civil rights laws, wage and hour matters, and leave laws. I also counsel clients on day-to-day employment matters such as restrictive covenants, HR compliance, and negotiating severance agreements. In addition, I work closely with our Corporate and M&A teams on transactional matters, including due diligence and drafting employment agreements, restrictive covenants, and independent contractor agreements. I frequently advise clients in the healthcare, staffing, and manufacturing industries, helping them navigate both disputes and strategic business transactions.

What sets you apart from other lawyers in your practice field?

What sets me apart is the perspective I bring from the very start of my career as a judicial clerk in both state and federal courts, at both the trial and appellate levels. That experience gave me a unique opportunity to see litigation through the court’s eyes, providing insight into how judges analyze issues and approach decision-making at every stage of a case. This foundation allows me to better evaluate risk, anticipate challenges, and craft strategies that align with how courts are likely to view a dispute – insight that has proven invaluable to my clients in both litigation and counseling matters.

What did you learn in your first year of practice that you still utilize today?

To listen. From the very beginning of my practice, I learned that listening is the foundation of effective advocacy and problem-solving. Every client comes with unique goals, concerns, and circumstances, and the only way to truly understand what is at stake is to listen carefully to their perspective. By doing so, I am able to identify not only the legal issues, but also the practical and business considerations that drive the matter.

Listening is equally essential in litigation. Whether it’s during a deposition, a hearing, or a negotiation, careful attention to what others are saying allows me to recognize opportunities, anticipate arguments, and adapt strategy in real time. You cannot ask the right follow-up question, spot inconsistencies, or identify leverage points without first absorbing what has already been said. This skill continues to shape how I approach my practice today—ensuring that I remain attentive, responsive, and focused on crafting solutions that serve my clients’ best interests.

Q: If you weren't a lawyer, what would you be?

A:

If I weren’t a lawyer, I would be an artisan bread baker. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of creating something of real substance and nourishment from the simplest of ingredients—flour, water, yeast, and salt. Much like practicing law, bread baking requires patience, precision, and an understanding of how small adjustments can affect the outcome. And at the end of the process, there’s the reward of providing something meaningful and sustaining to others.
