"Ours is a government of liberty by, through, and under the law. No man is above it and no man is below it.… This is not and never shall be a government either of a plutocracy or of a mob. It is, it has been, and it will be, a government of the people; including alike the people of great wealth and of moderate wealth, the people who employ others, the people who are employed, the wage- worker, the lawyer, the mechanic, the banker, the farmer; including them all, protecting each and every one if he acts decently and squarely, and discriminating against any one of them, no matter from what class he comes, if he does not act squarely and fairly, if he does not obey the law."

About Andrew

How do you help businesses and individuals?

My years of experience working for, and practicing in front of, the appellate courts in Michigan allow me to evaluate and advocate a legal issue for a client with the long-term success of the client’s goals in mind. And where the area of law has not been thoroughly addressed by our precedent, I will advocate on appeal how that legal issue should be clarified for the benefit of our client and future litigation.

What skills help you advise the client and achieve the best results or outcomes

I have had the privilege of practicing for the judiciary at both the trial and appellate levels, and as an advocate in front of the bench, particularly before our appellate courts. When advising a client or crafting a litigation strategy, my experience working for the courts means I view disputes with insight as to how a court might evaluate the matter, and my experience as an advocate at the appellate level means I remain focused on long-term results.

How do any of your community interests or activities facilitate how you represent your client?

West Michigan is a wonderful place to live, and it is my home. In many ways it is a smaller, more intimate community than we often think. Our clients, the other parties in a dispute, and opposing counsel are all often our fellow community members. Conducting litigation with professionalism and courtesy, while remaining a strong advocate, should not be undervalued.

Q: What do you enjoy most about being a lawyer?

A:

Litigation, particularly at the appellate level, often involves practicing in areas of the law that are not perfectly clear, or are not neatly applicable to the facts at hand. I get a great amount of satisfaction from delving into those areas of ambiguity, finding the answers, and crafting solutions for the client.
