The law firm of Rhoades McKee welcomes Katie Hogan Aguilar as shareholder and member of the Estate Planning and Administration Practice Group. In addition, Aguilar brings a new service line to Rhoades McKee – Elder Law, Medicaid Planning, and Special Needs Planning.

Aguilar creates estate plans of all types – from those with estate tax issues and succession planning for business owners to young families planning to protect young children. She helps families determine what steps to take after the loss or incapacity of a loved one and works through any probate, guardianship and conservatorship, or trust administration that may be required. Aguilar has significant experience working alongside seniors and their families to navigate the complex world of aging and long-term care. She assists with planning and applying for Medicaid and assessing the need for Veteran’s Aid and Attendance benefits. Aguilar is passionate about planning and advocating for individuals with special needs, including creating and administering Special Needs Trust. In addition, she assists families in developing a succession plan for their cottages, lakeshore properties, and second homes that honors their family values, while minimizing tax consequences.

“I’m very excited to join the team at Rhoades McKee. At Rhoades McKee, I have the opportunity to work side-by-side with an amazing group of talented attorneys to meet clients’ wide-ranging needs, while continuing to offer exceptional service and personal attention to each and every client,” stated Aguilar.

Licensed in Illinois and Michigan, she is a member of the Elder Law and Disability Rights Section of the State Bar of Michigan, the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys, and the Western Michigan Estate Planning Council. Aguilar received both her B.A. and J.D. from the University of Notre Dame.
