About Peter

How do you help businesses and individuals?

I help businesses and individuals respond to legal problems (and conflicts) that typically arise in transactions for real and/or personal property, including the sale, leasing, financing, or development of real property or business assets. In addition, I help lenders and commercial borrowers utilize financial transactions to structure real property and business financing. I have also assisted many businesses, including financial institutions, in a variety of litigation and loan work-out matters.

How have your skills evolved in your career?

Over the past 29(+) years, I have gained experience in the area of conflict resolution. I confidently assist parties in resolving conflicts in an efficient and economical manner, which often means we find resolutions without litigation and with expedited litigation solutions.

What did you learn in your first year of practice that you still utilize today?

Very early in my career, I learned that being responsive to contacts positively influences an efficient resolution of conflicts. In short, I quickly respond to clients and opposing parties so we can tackle problems and put them on a path toward resolution.

Education

Valparaiso University School of Law, J.D., magna cum laude, 1993

Hope College, B.A., Economics and Business Administration, 1989

Q: If you weren’t a lawyer what would you be?

A:

A tennis coach.  I have greatly enjoyed encouraging and watching my children in USTA Juniors Tennis through high school and onto the college level.  My wife (Jill) and I have had the privilege of watching all three of our children play tennis at the collegiate level.  While my role now is simply their “#1 fan”, I greatly enjoyed encouraging them in the game.
