About Peter

How do you help businesses and individuals?

I help businesses and individuals respond to legal problems that typically involve financing transactions for real and/or personal property, including the sale, leasing, financing, or development of real property. In addition, I help lenders and commercial borrowers utilize financial transactions to structure real property and business financing transactions. I have also assisted many businesses, including financial institutions, in defending litigation matters.

How have your skills evolved in your career?

Over the past 22(+) years, I have gained experience in the area of conflict resolution. I confidently assist parties in resolving conflicts in an efficient and economical manner, which often means we find resolutions without litigation or with expedited litigation solutions.

What did you learn in your first year of practice that you still utilize today?

Very early in my career I learned that being responsive to contacts positively influences an efficient resolution of conflicts. In short, I quickly respond to clients and opposing parties so we can tackle problems and put them on a path towards resolution.

Education

Valparaiso University School of Law, J.D., magna cum laude, 1993

Hope College, B.A., Economics and Business Administration, 1989

Q: If you weren’t a lawyer what would you be?

A:

A tennis coach.  Over the past 8 years, I have greatly enjoyed encouraging and watching my sons in USTA Juniors Tennis and High School Tennis.  I now have the privilege of watching my oldest son participate at the collegiate level in a sport we began playing together when he was 8 or 9 years old.  While my role now is simply their “#1 fan”, in their younger years, I greatly enjoyed teaching them and encouraging them in the game.
